MICE, MICE-Molds and Injected Components Engineering SA was founded in 2013, and as a spin-off of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 2014.

The MICE Story in the words of Engineer Nuno Gomes, CEO:

Mice's roots go back to the late 90s and early 2000s, when at the Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering (LSRE), from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (UP), a group of researchers decided to study a different technology to manufacture plastics. With skills in the area of mixing and chemical reaction, they began by investigating the RIM (Reaction Injection Molding) process. In this context, the group grew and integrated new researchers, including PhD students. In 2007 I joined this group as a PhD student in this area.

At the end of my PhD I considered that there was potential to use RIM technology to bridge the gap between prototyping and mass production. Thus, in April 2013, MICE was born, with the aim of bringing the technology that had been developed at LSRE to the market.

We started in a small garage at the SANJOTEC facilities, in São João da Madeira, passing through a pavilion at the Oliva Creative Factory until we settled in the Industrial Zone of Romariz. We currently have in-house capabilities from design to painting and final delivery, and above all, in the team.

Since the beginning, our work has been recognized where I highlight the Spin-off seal of the University of Porto in 2014, the Seal of Excellence of the Horizon 2020 program, SME Instrument of the European Commission in 2016 and finally the investment obtained by part of Portugal Ventures.

However, this only makes sense when our customers are added to our history, for whom we work every day to find solutions tailored to their needs.

2017 the first MICE industrial unit was installed at the Oliva Creative Factory, an incubator in São João da Madeira. We started with the smallest press we still have today, and a machine.

In addition, it was highlighted with the road to Web Summit award, as one of the 67 high-tech companies in Portugal, with a presence at the WebSummit 2017.

In 2019, we moved to our current facilities in Santa Maria da Feira, with two presses, two machines.

At the end of 2021, we bought the painting greenhouse, which allowed us to expand this internal valence, the painting booth. With the aim of responding to our customers from the design to the finishing of the piece.

Meanwhile, the team also grew with the hiring of two engineers and other employees in the area of production, painting and finishing.

However, this only makes sense when our customers are added to our history, for whom we work every day to find solutions tailored to their needs.

Surely we will write more history together!
